Day 1: Eco-Village Tour
We will pick you up at the
International Airport (BZE). Your package
includes our 90 minutes Village Eco-Tour,
which normally takes place on day 1 (if
there is time and you are not too tired) ". |
|
Day 2: Cave Tubing + Jungle Zip Lines (Or
Belize Zoo)
After breakfast at 8am we transfer
you to the Jaguar Paw Reserve off the
Western Highway. It is a spectacularly
beautiful spot, where the limestone
foothills surrounding the Mayan Mountains
are covered in rainforest and penetrated by
the Caves Branch River, creating a series of
amazing caves (Belize is the caving capital
of Central America). You will have a 40
minute guided walk through the forest,. You
will be carrying your big inner tube over
your shoulder, being careful not to catch it
on any thorny plants before you get to the
river again, where it cuts through the hill.
Now it's time to put your tube in the water
and to fall back into it, ready to float
through some amazing caves back to the point
where you crossed the river at the beginning
of your walk. It has been said that in the
tranquility of those caves you find yourself¡K
Another program today, you have an option
for either Jungle Zip Lines or Belize Zoo;
The "Zoo" is a charitable trust run by its
American founder Sharon Matola, and that too
is only about 15 minutes from the Orchid
Garden at 29 Miles Western Highway. It isn't
like any other zoo you've ever been too, and
we confidently recommend it to everyone,
including those travelers who hate the idea
of "zoos". |
|
Day 3: Jungle Hanging Bridge & Flores City
After breakfast, we transfer you to
the border with Guatemala (the journey takes
around 90 minutes and see you safely through
border control and into the taxi which will
be waiting for you on the Guatemalan side.
That taxi will take you to your hotel in El Remate, close to Flores City, the Casa de
Don David, which is in a beautiful lakeside
location. There you will have lunch, after
which the driver will take you to the
Hanging Bridges of Ixpanpajul, and leave you
to take a self-guided walk along the bridges
which stretch for some 3 kilometres through
the rainforest canopy and afford excellent
opportunities for bird-watching. Your driver
will come back for you at a prearranged time
and take you to Flores City, where you will
have perhaps an hour to explore that pretty
little town. Then he will take you back to
your hotel for dinner. |
|
Day 4: Tikal Tour
You will get up early (around 5am)
and be taken to Tikal (about 20 minutes from
the hotel) so that you can experience the
sun rising over the pyramids. Breakfast is
not provided by the hotel because you leave
for Tikal so early, but can be purchased
very cheaply in the park, Tikal is the most
perfectly preserved ancient Mayan city in
existence, and your English speaking guide
will give you a highly informative tour
which will last most of the morning. The
hotel will have provided you with a
lunchbox. After an opportunity for you to
spend another couple of hours exploring the
vast Tikal sight on your own, you will meet
up with your tour vehicle and be transported
to your hotel. You are likely to be pretty
tired by now, but the lake and the village
of El Remate present some opportunities for
strolling and sight-seeing, if you have the
energy. |
|
Day 5: Jungle Horseback Riding or Culture of
Cayo
After breakfast, your hotel will
arrange for your taxi ride back to the
border with Belize, where our driver will be
waiting for you. On your way back to the
Orchid Garden he will take you to Banana
Bank for your Jungle horseback riding. They
have the largest herd of horses in Belize,
and they whisper train them for obedience
and docility. There are hundreds of miles of
trails through the jungle, and trekking
along them is an amazing way of experiencing
the flora and fauna surrounding you. |
|
Day 6: ATM (Underground Expedition of
Crystal Madam Cave):
If you opt for A.T.M. (Actun Tunichil
Muknal, the "Cave of the Stone Sepulchre")
you will breakfast at 7am and set off around
7.40am for your rendezvous with the A.T.M.
tour vehicle at the village of Teakettle on
the Western Highway. The underground
exploration of the Tomb of the Crystal
Maiden at Actun Tunichil Muknal is arguably
not for the faint-hearted; but those who
have done it often say it was the best thing
about their trip to Belize.. It is an
awesome experience that we have seen seven
year olds and seventy year olds relish: but
you need to be fairly confident in water,
not to mind tight squeezes in small places,
and to have fairly good knees for the
climbing bits. You will know from the above
description whether it is for you or not.
The cultural tour of West Belize (our
alternative tour for those who decide ATM is
not for them) affords fascinating glimpses
into the lives, cultures and languages of
some of the distinct groups contained within
the rainbow coalition making up the
population of Belize. Your guide will fill
you in on some of the details concerning how
and when each of these culturally and
linguistically distinct groups settled in
Belize and became Belizean. You will visit
farmers' markets in San Ignacio and Spanish
Lookout, get to sample fruits you may never
have seen or heard of before, sample
famously good Mennonite ice-cream and eat
some very reasonably priced, good, wholesome
food in a Mennonite restaurant.
The Inland Blue Hole is a beautifully kept
nature reserve off the Hummingbird Highway
(arguably the prettiest road in Belize). It
features a cave you can stroll into, with an
entrance and flight of steps which featured
in one of the Indiana Jones movies. An
underground stream wells up in one spot and
creates a refreshing swimming hole in
spectacularly beautiful surroundings: a
lovely way to cool down on a hot day,
floating in a Garden of Eden, where the
cares of the so-called civilized world see
no point in intruding. |
|
Day 7: Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark
Ray Alley Snorkel
After breakfast, we will take you
to the water taxi terminal in Belize City
for your 90 minute transfer by boat to
Ambergris Caye (San Pedro). Your
snorkeling tour will take place after
breakfast, and is provided by a premier
snorkeling and diving company. You will
enjoy world class snorkeling along the
longest barrier reef in the Northern
hemisphere, and at Shark/Ray Alley: expect
nurse sharks, giant eagle rays, loggerhead
turtles, moray eels, countless smaller
tropical fish and abundant, multicolored
coral.. You will be free
after snorkel tour before 4:30pm to explore San Pedro and perhaps
indulge in a little shopping (some of the
best shops in Belize are in San Pedro town).
your return Water Taxi is schedule to leave
San Pedro, our driver will pick you up at
the Water Taxi Terminal and transfer you to
your "Home" of Belize. |
|
Day 8: Airport transfer
Your package includes an return Water
Taxi to Belize City, our driver will pick
you up at the Water Taxi Terminal and
transfer you to International Airport to
take your departure flight
