The hospitality is supreme. The food is excellent and every person that works for this wonderful place goes out of their way to assure you are enjoying all of what Belize has to offer. We first liked the concept of the Eco-Village being a tourist business. We also very much enjoyed the tours, food and people in the village. A Natural Experience In A Sustainable Environment Andre29   1 contribution New Jersey Oct 13, 2009 | Trip type: Solo travel The Orchid Garden Eco Village and Hotel community is an example of environmental consciousness in a beautiful tropical location. The hosts and staff are very friendly and accomodating. You feel the warmth and hospitality from the moment you arrive to the time of your departure. The community itself consists of the hotel, restaurant, village houses, museum, and great avian biodiversity. The birding is awesome! There are many examples of sustainable living in the community. The hotel and houses have rain water runoff collection systems. The hotel uses some solar energy and the hotel pool has an all natural solar powered water filtration system. It's a nice swim. All the activities I did during my stay were very enjoyable. I went cave tubing, ziplining, and saw the mayan ruins. I also visited the Belize Zoo, which is more like a wildlife sanctuary than a zoo. I didn't do the ATM, but I heard it is phenomenal. The restaurant can cater to just about any dietary preferences and specializes in healthy food, mostly vegetarian. Everything I had was fresh and delicious. They didn't know I was vegan until I arrived and had to scramble to accomodate my diet, whch they did admirably well. The food variety was good and the highlights for me were all the tasty soups, vegetable fried rice, soy patties, whole wheat breakfast pancakes, homemade soy milk, juices, fresh fruits, and chocolate mousse one night for desert. After my stay at the Orchid Valley Eco Village, I was off to San Pedro for a few days of scuba diving. I highly recommend this place. It was a perfect home base for all of our adventures, and I really can¡¦t imagine staying anywhere else while visiting such a beautiful country. The staff was friendly and attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. Christine¡¦s home cooked meals were nothing short of amazing, with fresh and tasty food¡Xand plenty of it, accompanied by juices including lime and hibiscus. Our room was simple and clean, although we didn¡¦t spend much time in it! Transportation was provided to all of our outings and on most we were accompanied by members of the hotel¡¦s staff. Alfredo¡¦s knowledge of the history and natural wonders of the area were very much appreciated. I¡¦ve never learned so much while on vacation before, and also never felt quite as attached to the staff! We had such a good time on our sisters¡¦ trip, we¡¦re planning on visiting again this December with the rest of our family and are very much looking forward to it! I wouldn¡¦t hesitate to recommend Orchid Garden. An Expedition underground to find the Crystal Mayan Maiden, this cave was featured in the National Geographic Explorer film Journey through the Underworld (1993). You will bounce over some rough road to get to the start, then trek through some steamy jungle for up to an hour, fording the river 3 times (the water may be up to your knees, or even higher) to get to the mouth of the cave.  Then you swim in (there is no other way) and make your way past stalactites and stalagmites to crystallized human remains from Mayan rituals more than a thousand years ago.  This is an awesome trip which is arguably not for the faint-hearted; that is why we run a more sedate option on the same day!  some of your family member may choose to spend time exploring Mayan, Mennonite and Mestizo population centers with their different cultural overtones instead ¡¡
