Facilities

Artistry Created by Mother Nature

At the end of the Savannah Nature Trail of Orchid Garden Eco-Village, there is a spacious house - one of the most beautiful buildings in Belize. Part of the ground floor has been given over to an exhibition of bottles found in Belize, a fairly extensive and fascinating collection of rocks and roots entitled “Nature’s Artistry in Root and Stone” , and a number of paintings collectively described as “Expressions of Belize”.

The bottles (from the 17th – 21st centuries) are accompanied by paragraphs describing key events in Belize’s history.

There are 50+ examples of azalea roots which have received minimal attention from an artist in order to turn them into depictions of cranes (the birds!), and a similar number of stones, the composition of which powerfully suggests images found elsewhere in Nature – like the rainforest, or the Red Sea.

All these items are displayed in glass exhibition cabinets, with mirrored glass at the back to show how the pattern goes right through the stone. Most of the stones have been simply cut and polished, though some are in their natural state and only weathering has affected their appearance. The overall effect is a powerful reminder of the complexity and longevity of the processes which combined all those minerals and sediments to create incredibly lifelike pictures in the rock.

The collection is rounded off by a number of paintings depicting scenes in or around Mainland Belize and celebrating the natural wonders, culture, wildlife and people of this magical country..

Nature Stone Artistry

The stones you will see in this collection are way more than just stones. They combine the natural richness of jade, agate, desert and river stones, and carnelian and crystal with the inexplicable wonder of Mother Nature's creativity. Within these stones, all of them cleverly named to capture their spirit are images of trees, butterflies, animals, wind, and water.

Nature Root Artistry

Here is another inspiring and beautiful collection, this one of 50 pieces of ¡¡¡ÓRoot Artistry¡¨. The imagination and creativity of the artist have transformed ordinary roots into whimsical cranes depicting a wide range of emotion. These graceful and delightful works of art are truly one of a kind
